80 / 10 / 10 spelled out.

The classic prey-model line is built from three parts and nothing else. Here is what each one is doing.

  • 80% muscle meatProtein, amino acids and moisture. Includes heart and green tripe, which are muscle tissue.
  • 10% edible boneThe natural calcium and phosphorus source. Some blends use a salmon-bone collagen mix instead of ground bone.
  • 10% organLiver, kidney, spleen. The most micronutrient-dense part of the animal, and the reason ratio matters.

Exceptions, stated plainly: Beginner’s Choice runs 75/15/10 and suits puppies and active adults. Green Tripe is a single-ingredient topper, not a complete meal. Tex’s Beef Prey Model Plus is a fortified "Prey Model Plus" formula with an added vitamin, mineral, and fruit blend and a 3:1 calcium-to-phosphorus ratio.

How It Works

Three steps, frozen the whole way.

    Order your rotation

    Mix proteins in one order. Everything stays in the freezer until the box is packed, and you get tracking as soon as it leaves.

  2. 2

    It ships frozen

    Flat $25 to California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Nevada and Arizona, however big the order. Boxes leave packed for transit and are meant to arrive frozen or still firm. Move them to your freezer as soon as the box lands.

  3. 3

    Thaw and feed

    Move one chub to the fridge 24 hours ahead. Serve, wash the bowl, done. A thawed chub keeps 2–3 days refrigerated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 80/10/10 complete and balanced?

The prey-model blends are built to whole-animal ratios rather than to an AAFCO nutrient profile, which is why rotation across proteins matters: it broadens the nutrient base. AAFCO nutrient profiles are built around highly refined, commercially processed kibble, which is less bioavailable than raw food. If you want a single fortified formula with added vitamins and minerals, Tex’s Beef Prey Model Plus is the one to look at. All Texas Tripe blends are laboratory-tested for nutritional content. When in doubt, review your dog’s diet with your vet.

How do I switch my dog from kibble?

Go gradually over about nine days: start at roughly ¼ raw to ¾ current food and shift the ratio by ¼ every few days. Some owners prefer separate meals rather than mixing. Expect smaller, firmer stools. If stools go loose, slow down; if they go chalky and hard, the blend may be high in bone. Add tripe or move to a lower-bone blend.

Which blend should a first-timer buy?

Beginner’s Choice or Beef Blend. Both are beef-forward, single-protein-dominant, and easy on a new digestive system. Add Green Tripe as a topper if your dog needs convincing. Very few dogs turn it down.
